I am a emeritus professor of art at OCAD University where I began building web pages making and documenting my work on the university web server about 25 years ago.
Recently there has been two major events that brought those pages to an end:
1. Adobe Flash Player
Many of my works, and the documentation of my work, were assembled for the web using video made with Macromedia Flash and the Adobe Flash Player, without which, my videos do not play on any computer.
On January 12, 2021 Adobe withdraw the support of the Flash Player. Apparently the videos made with Flash have a capability to carry with them malicious coding and the solution to this was to terminate the use of the Flash Player.
As a result, any of my work that was originally created in Flash, as most of it was, cannot be viewed and will now need to be rebuilt if I am able to view it again, or share it on the web.
This represents a significant amount of work, to convert the videos, which I have been slowly doing.
2. Decommissioning
OCAD University decided to decommission its web server space on April 20, 2024. All my pages, such as they were, came down permanently.
As a result, my web pages need to be migrated to new server space. Perhaps here. Maybe temporarily? Maybe permanently? I'm not sure...
I have only just begun today, June 13, 2024.
This also represents a significant amount of work, which I will slowly work away at....
